Language Arts:
Our comprehensive language arts program utilizes components of Starfall
RAZ-Kids
Orton-Gillingham curriculums
Reading, comprehension, phonetic awareness, writing, sight words, beginning grammar, sentence structure and vocabulary.
Guided Reading:
Our Guided Reading program is taken from Flying Start to Literacy, a division of Okapi Educational Publishing. Vocabulary instruction, phonics, text features, reading strategies and fluency are introduced and reinforced during small, leveled reading groups in the classroom. Guided reading groups are introduced in the second half of the year.
Mathematics:
Our math curriculum is taken from the Envision Mathematics series by Scott Foresman-Addison Wesley. Skills are introduced and reinforced through play, centers and hands-on learning opportunities.
Count read and write numbers, patterns, shapes, data, addition, subtraction, measures
Social Science:
Our Social Science curriculum is taken from the A-Z Science series. The skills addressed include hypotheses, data sheets, using diagrams, drawing conclusions, observations, graphing, inference, experimentation, and the use of scientific tools.
Life Science-animals, Earth and space, Earth’s surface, farming and weather.
Physical Science- magnets, how things move, light and energy, technology, simple machines.
Social Science- in-house field trips, local field trips, character trait building.
